Message	these vents appear to be in a high pressure location. In most cars, the area in front of the windscreen is actually at an elevated pressure due to the stagnation effect of the air hitting the glass. If this is the case for these vents, air will actually flow into the engine compartment not out. This will increase the flow of air over the engine and out the bottom of the compartment.
