| Saying that you don't need stronger pistons because you're not going to detonate is like a motorcycle rider saying that he doesn't need to wear protective clothing because he doesn't intend to fall. You're going to experience detonation sooner or later. Of course you'll try your best to tune it so it doesn't detonate, but inevitably it'll detonate sometime. Heck, my car even detonates occasionally, and I'm only stage 3 running the very conservative JWT program. Luckily being stage 3 means not much power being produced, so the pistons can handle it. Do you want pistons which break the first time your car detonates under heavy boost, or do you want something that's more solid and gives more margin for error? Remember that polishing, coating, cryo-treating and anodizing parts is very expensive. For only about $1000 more, you can have have the reassurance of having more durable aftermarket pistons. I remember watching a tuner show on TV where this guy with a Supra was bragging about how he spent $30,000 in mods on his engine and how he's putting out 700 rwhp on stock internals. This seemed stupid to me. If you spent that much money on the engine, why not dish out the extra $1600 on better pistons and rods to make sure your engine doesn't grenade? I guess some people are impressed when someone claims that they played Russian roulette and won, but personally I just think it's stupid taking unnecessary risk.
