Is to run then through crossovers that are set to the speaker range and efficiency. Where speakers start to loose their accuracy is running a higher volume in the wrong frequency. An SPL will show you that larger diameter speakers of the same quaintly as lower diameters will produce far more volume pre wattage. While an RTA will show you overall music accuracy and for overall use a 10" sub is the best overall size to use. This would also depend on the speakers applications as well. This is also why when you hear music that is intended for loud low bass meant for 15", 18", it's slower and the tones are much lower. So a cone of that sizes can produce it the way it was intended to be heard. If the music was made with those same very low tones in a much faster beat. The larger speakers would become more distorted and loose the sound quality. But point is, keep them running through active crossovers and run an active or passive equalizer and the sound quality should be very good. Even thought the human ears aren't the best on the planet :)
