All this discussion highlights what I believe to be one of the most important benefits of carbon fiber driveshafts: vibration damping. Most folks speak of lower rotating weight and lower static weight, but I went to a CF shaft for the damping. I found that for the very high speeds at which I drive my car, the CF shaft is by far the smoothest, and I'd go so far as to say the only one that would really work. In addition, there are the safety benefits with regards to the fact that a CF shaft will splinter or broom in the event of joint failure.

My point is that the CF shaft can help "cover a multitude of sins" with regards to things like not-perfect pinion angles, incorrectly phased joints, etc, just because it soaks up so much vibration.

Yeah, they probably add a half-horsepower, but that's missing the point in my opinion.
