I guess that after 6 years in Japan HKS Hiper is mild compared to what you see out here. I know that at Tokyo Auto (A Japanese Z shop where I hang out a lot and spend a small fortune) and Super Autobacs the Z guys mostly have the HKS Hiper. They say that they like it for its low cost and good performance. I do understand where you are coming from with the looks but it actually serves a purpose in my case because I have bought the Tokyo Auto Tow Hook Tension bar and the straight out type exhuast won't fit properly with it. The extra angle gives me and a lot of room. The Japanese Z guys that use this type of stiffening on the rear where it is very much needed will swear by it. But, hey I guess that I don't mind a little flame war every now and then either. So I'll open the gun range back up! you have green range, Light off your flam thrower... LOL
