Message :Don't carburetors work by having the intake air suck fuel through holes in the carb throat?

Carburetors rely on the venturi effect to meter the appropriate amount of fuel. The choke on a carb richens the mixture during cold start conditions. The choke acts as a restriction in the airflow, thus increasing the pressure differential across the venturi, which in turn increases the amount of fuel metered in to the airstream. A clogged air filter can provide the same effect as a choke in this regard.

Less air, less fuel?

depends on where the restriction is. If the restriction is after the venturi (throttle blades), then yes, this is true. If the restriction is before the venturi (choke or clogged air filter), then the mixture gets rich.

:Thus, clogged/dirty airfilter, less air, less fuel.

less air, more fuel

:Or is the savings on accelerating, when the accel pump dumps fuel down the carb??

And, yes, this board is full of haters. Get used to it. A large proportion of members on this board are well educated and more conservative in their opinions of aesthetics. In other words, we basically think that body kits which destroy the lines of the car and purple neon brake caliper accents are fucking stupid.
