Even with the SC, it probably cost Nissan less to make than the VQ. Remember, as Halo mentioned below, the Frontier's engine is SOHC while the VQ is DOHC. The VQ is also an aluminum block while I believe the Frontier's is still a cast iron block. So I don't think they thought of it in the terms of the discussion that you guys are arguing about, they know the VQ is better, but it's also not cost effective to put it into a lower cost truck like the Frontier.
