Message	Also because the reverse break-down voltage is typically very large it takes only a very small amount of current to exceed the power capabilities of the device. Hence the diode would "potentially fry" as I put it before. You are absolutely right, if the current is limited in the reverse breakdown region the device will not be damaged. In fact Zener diodes are made to operate in the reverse breakdown region.
