March 03, 2004 - Gran Turismo 4 Prologue Version is no longer the latest version of Sony Computer Entertainment's hot upcoming racer. And your high end plasma television may no longer be the coolest way to drive while off the road. Now wowing attendees of the Geneva Motor Show is Gran Turismo 4 Toyota MTRC Version. Developed by Polyphony Digital and Toyota, this version of GT4 simulates what it's like to drive Toyota's MTRC concept car.
There have been other single car versions of Gran Turismo before, but the catch here is that you play this version in an actual MTRC car, and rather than using a monitor, you use a head mounted display. This form of display apparently allows you to view your surroundings like a real driver would, with the game updating the viewing position as you turn your neck. We're unfortunately not in Geneva (misplaced our tickets...), so we can't bring you a hands-on play test. We're sure of one thing, though: if this head mounted display system actually works, a good number of hardcore racing nuts would be willing to buy into it no matter what the cost.
