Message	To keep a 'clean' look, the pipes are welded to the flange base on the inside. The welds are then grounded down to a smooth finish to help with flow. It wouldn't be hard to grind too much and weaken the whole piece....which is what happened on my pipes. Greg seemed really good to deal with, I just didn't have time to go with the replacement route. I'm sure he would have taken care of me.
