Message aside from fade, there is also the time between when your foot hits the pedal and when your brakes achieve maximum deceleration and activate the ABS. With stock brakes, there is a longer lag time that, while only a split second, can mean a significantly longer braking distance because that extra split second occurs when your car is still travelling at speed.

Pedal feel is also more than just subjective -- larger rotors with their better leverage, allow for more precise modulation of the brakes by both your foot and also probably by the ABS. This should also reduce braking distances.

In the real world, your tires' coefficient of friction is not the only factor in braking distances since we are never able to perfectly maximize the use of all the available grip from the time you first want to start braking right through to the time you're done.

Finally, I have yet to noticeably fade my Z's brakes even on the fast, winding mountain roads we have out here.
