Message It is slightly different because the ethical questions are more complex, but the fundamental aspects are the same. Is it "OK" for people to buy generic prescription medications? Some would argue that generic drugs are slightly inferior. Most people who buy generics have some doubt in their minds as to the effectiveness of using the cheaper alternative. Usually, they have no choice, as with most things that are expensive. This, however, is an unnecessary tangent. Even if there are some who do not benefit from the generic product, the point is, a larger number of people's lives will be affected in a positive way. There is a reason that patents eventually expire. Usually it is for a GREATER COMMON GOOD. There is no way that Greg Dupree could indefinitely corner the market on split downpipes. Incidentally, I have never heard him say that he patented his downpipes anyway. Whether it was 2003 or 2010, someone would eventually be able to take his idea and mass produce it.
