Message Ethylene glycol is "sickly sweet" tasting and is also a deadly poison. In fact, kids and dogs will drink the stuff spontaneously which is why antifreeze and washer fluid have to have childproof caps on them by federal law. So the glycol improves, and does not detract from the taste.

That is why one of the oldest suburban tricks to get rid of a nuisance, neighborhood dog is to put out a bowl of antifreeze. The dog will drink it, and die of kidney failure shortly thereafter. Dogs are also known to be killed accidentally when they lap up a puddle of anti-freeze under a parked car.

The usual alcohol in windshield washer fluid is methanol, or methyl alcohol, also known as wood alcohol. This is also a deadly poison and just 2-6 ounces can kill an adult. Even serious alcoholics know not to drink this stuff because it also causes blindness before death.
