I think fish-tailing is a pretty common problem. The 300ZX uses a viscous differential that is a little slow to react. On my car, especially in the rain, one tire will spin a little before it locks. A clutch-type LSD reacts quicker helping to prevent either tire from spinning independently. Of couse you don't want 100% lockup otherwise you couldn't really go around corners to well =) Why I think more people don't use them is because they are expensive $1000+, kind of hard to install, they can be noisy, and they can be a little hard to drive with depending on your driving skill and how much lockup you set it up with.
