Message are more error-prone than the rest of the general population, but then go on to say that "Im just saying, being they are human, I would believe they did the damage rather than anesthetics." These two statements contradict eachother. If you believe that doctors are usually at fault rather than something just happening, then that's what you believe.

But my point was that this kind of thing can sometimes happen, despite the best preparations and efforts of all involved. Still, we often want someone to blame in these kinds of scenarios, because initially we think it will make us feel better to find the person responsible. But there isn't always someone to pin it on, and in the end it doesn't bring the person back. The feeling of vindication only exists when there is truly gross negligence or misconduct on the part of the physician.

And the reality in this country is that people are TOO quick to blame the docs, hence the impending malpractice crisis that is driving doctors out of practice in many states. PA, the state in which I live, is in a serious crisis right now. Obstetricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, etc. are leaving in droves because they can't afford the med-mal insurance due to litigious people who sue not for bad medicine, but for bad outcomes. This hurts all of us in the long run as access to docs becomes greatly restriced.

As for Pete Rose, I'm not sure how apologizing, no matter when he did it, changes the fact that he still bet on baseball and compromised the integrity of the game. Shoeless Joe Jackson, a great player worthy of hall of fame status, isn't in the hall of fame because he was involved in throwing the World Series in 1919. Why should Pete get treated any differently?
