with ear plugs in. There are more than once type of ear plug though. There are the ones made out of a waxy type of substance that blocks out almost all sounds, then there is the foam type ones. With the foam ones in you can still hear everything perfectly fine, but it blocks out a bunch of the background noise. I wear ear plugs all the time at concerts so I can hear the band and other people better. I actually hear more details when wearing them in noisy situations than what I normally would.
