Since that element totally sways the stakes. It's the main reason the JWT is counted out at least in your opinion. Despite the safety boost mapping, their program overall is more conservative and technically safer than something like the AshSpec chip. That's NOT to say the AshSpec isn't safe either, bare with me. The AshSpec will surely be safer if the ECU/knock sensor catches a problem to put it into safety boost but that's NOT to say the JWT is dangerous either. People are quite funny in how much they tout the safety boost issue when it really is NOT much of an issue in the grand scheme of things. I'm Mr. Paranoid when it comes to my car and even I know this isn't that big of a deal to worry about. If your car goes into safety boost (a rare, but very possible thing as they get older), it drops to 7psi or so regardless of what chip you use. Now, one chip may run the timing safer in that case, but at 7psi, even with a multitude of possible reasons for being in safety boost, very few (if any) would also result in it being dangerous to drive with the stock JWT program. You're at 7psi for god's sake...if your timing is still 18 at one part of the band, it isn't going to blow anything up in the real world. JWT isn't the smartest company when it comes to keeping up and improving things with the times, but they weren't utterly stupid when they scrapped the safety mapping in the way they did. They knew what they were doing and the chip wasn't for jackasses out there who put 87 octane in their Z, ignore engine lights and marry their sisters. Now that we have people like that, there's plenty of people lined up to buy the competition. As such, taking the safety boost issue out of the equation, I'm more than happy with the semi-conservative nature of the JWT. It offers a better improvement over stock and is tried and true. I know exactly what it does, how it does it, what not to do with it and how to get it taken care of for the next DECADE if I have a problem. For those going "all-out" or with custom applications not intended for stock JWT use, you may need something else. That's great. For the rest of us, or at least for ME, the JWT is perfect. That's my opinion. Let's see who will be first to make it an issue it isn't.
