Message and boost all affect ext temperatures. I didn't tweak any of my timing. My timing is very conservative at 17 degrees. I was running strictly off of the JWT ecu chip. My ext temperatures is normal for the tune that JWT has . I verified it with JWT . When you start advance timing , the exhaut temps will go down. However, that means more of the heat will be in the combustion chamber which is why you make more power. But you have to have good fuel for that.
