| dpi stands for dots per inch, which doesn't always equal pixels per inch... so that 1200 dpi printer probably really does print 1200 dpi, but only 200 or 300 pixels per inch, so each pixel is made up of 6-4 dots. think those dots you can see magazine pictures are made up of. What does piss me off though is it's a PITA to find out how many pixels per inch a printer prints. As I recall however, using photoshop anyway, you could print at what ever pixel per inch ratio you wanted, though I'm sure it's just degrading it down to whatever the printer will take automaticaly.
