...my total time down was about 3 months, and I did a total performance rebuild including block prep (water jackets, etc), new pistons, new rods, overbore, balancing, assembly, head rebuild and installation, etc. It usually depends on how many extra things you try to do while the motor is down, and the attitidue of your rebuilder. If you go in with the intention of only rebuilding what you have, then you can complete much more quickly. If you try to add every new part that you can find while you are in there, then it will probably take a lot longer. In other words, if you want the car back relatively quickly, don't bite off more than you can chew.
