Message that the stress loads it feels are significant enough that it would likely fatigue and crack at the edge of a hole.. I'm looking at the rod cap for more weight savings as there is a large block of metal which can be machined as a "U" groove so as to actually make it less prone to bend, as well as making it lighter.

The interesting thing about lightening this part is the fact that being lighter will put it under less inertial loads. This wont necessarily make it stronger per se, but in its application it will actually be less likely to yield than its heavier counterpart. Unfortunately this isn't the only kind of load it is put under and both parameters acatually work against each other - weight savings to lessen inertial loads vs. weight savings to decrease structural strength. The way the part is made from Nissan is a rough cut for production purposes. The forging flash actually weakens the part as sharp corners amplify stress. Removing the stress risers (sharp corners, edges) makes it lighter as well as stronger but there are always limits; and this demonstration is about is determining where that line is at. We think there is still room to shed weight and actually strengthten it by further shaping its contours. If it breaks a rod once we run it full load, then we'll know for sure we went too far.. On the other hand, if it revs like a GSXR without fail, we'll be pleased.. I'm also kinda tired of everything staying together and working exceptionally well... Its about time to just go all out on an idea and not worry about it blowing up.. we'll just build it again...
