First off, I had a Z (240Z) stolen too many years ago to recall - it was devastating to me. The car was stolen right out of my driveway and, as was suggested in your case, there was speculation that my car was "profiled". They towed it away, because had they started it, the exhaust and headers were loud enough to wake up everyone in the house (not to mention the neighborhood). I reacted in a similar fashion as you did; I thought about getting another car and waiting in the bushes for them to return and similar ideas to bring the culprits to justice. In the end, I got the car back and the insurance provided the funds to allow me to fully restore the car (even better than before). A couple of months after I finished the restoration (which took a couple of years of on and off again work), I went to a Nissan dealer to get some tune-up parts for one of my other cars. A salesman fell in love with the car and wanted to buy it from me on the spot. To make a long story short, I worked a deal that put me in my first Z32 (an NA) and quickly became hooked on the Z32 worse than I anticipated. 10 years after getting the NA, (which I had to sell in '93 because we started a family), I bought a TT and hooked up with this forum. In the end, something that was quite bad turned out better than expected. The moral of this drawn out story....I'd encourage you to move on. It's not easy to do this, I know. But the car has been recovered and you will have the option to walk away from it or rebuild it. Yes, bringing the scum who stole the car to justice is what we all want. Did they ever find who stole my car? No. Do I care? Yes. But what I'm getting at is that I haven't let it consume me. Eventually, I think you'll get to this point - the purpose of my story is to help show that something good can come of this. Put your efforts towards planning on what to do with the car and what improvements you'd go with. And above all, keep investigating ways to prevent the next car from being stolen. My last bit of advice: Try to enjoy a big Thanksgiving meal.
I hope you take this message in the right context. Dave N.
