Message I think many of these noobs are kids which don't really contribute much in the way of knowledge to the forum. Look at the average new user now compared to 3 years ago. How many posts did we see back then asking if we could put Lamborghini doors on the Z? Hell, look at the average Z back then. Much cleaner and unmolested. The quality of new Z owners/board members has declined.

Of course the admin wants the board to grow and progress. But this isn't progress. Catering to imbeciles is only taking a step backwards. The only newbies who were bashed were the ones asking ridiculous questions, and I don't think their absence is a bad thing.

Look at 300zxclub. That's what happens when you let the kids run the show. The reason I liked the Z scene and not the typical "import" scene is because the average Z owner was much more discriminating in their sense of taste and propriety. When you protect new users from the more knowledgeable veterans you are removing their inhibitions and helping cultivate ineptitude. Imagine if a football coach told the team leaders not to chastise the rookies and allowed the rookies to play the way they wanted. Do you think the team would get any better? With no type of leadership the team would quickly degrade and run amuck. Or if you protected interns at a corporation and let their ideas equal that of seasoned employees. Do you think you'd still be able to build on experience? Of course not, since each new fanciful opinion would hold the same weight as a tried and true one.

By protecting all the newbies you are removing the "filter" which kept the dumbest of the dumb out. Now a question about a flying Z will go unpunished, and a question about the spool characteristics of a turbo may go unanswered. Worse yet, you might just get some wrong answers from noobs, who are now protected from reprimand.

I think the veterans were using their seasoned judgement by helping those who needed help and keeping out those who were undesirable. It might not work perfectly all the time, but the judgement of the vets was about as good as you were going to get.
