Message I have revisited the idea of these large Ford Cobra 13" rotors on the Z. As many of you know, I built this setup quite some time ago, back in June of 2002, and enjoyed being able to stop on a dime since recently when the rotors have just plain worn out. I put two sets of pads through them without turning them and turned them for a new set of pads only to find that they simply wont take being cut down to thinner size and not warp. For those that dont know how I drive, I basically run it like I stole it - hard accelleration and late, heaavy braking. In short, I beat the piss out of these brakes. So I did some digging and found an excellent rotor for a new setup.. It is a two piece rotor, aluminum hat (yes, the cool stuff), aerospace fasteners, and special high-friction steel discs. These new rotors are much thicker than the cobra rotors and also feature radial fins to move more air through the cooling channel. They are also crossdrilled and slotted to enhance initial bite and anti-fade braking. Here's a pic of the installed setup:

You can see it still uses the stock caliper, but uses a relocating bracket I designed for this setup which allows the larger rotor to fit over the disc.

We (Z1 Motorsports) are thinking of introducing this setup as a full kit, inculding all brackets, fasteners, rotors (pictured), and EBC GreenStuff pads. For any of you who haven't heard of these pads, check it out here:

These pads rock.
We will be entertaining this idea in the weeks to come and based on interest, it may become a kit for purchase.. Likely priced around $900-$1000 or so. We'll have to see on that.. Just wanted to share my new toys. =)
