They take a lot of practice to be quick and overall, it's not worth the time. Think about the shift from 2nd to 3rd here. On a non gated shifter you get a little lateral movement as well, so 2nd to 3rd is almost a straight line with a slight jog to the right... moreso then the forward, stoppish, right, stoppish, forward movement for the gated shifter. And it's not going to help much with missed shifts. That's a personal problem that a gate shifter really won't help as much as people think. Especially when trying to shift at speed with one of those things. I've driven a few and I'd prefer to not have to deal with it unless someone gives me some superexotic with one.
