Message but electronically, they're still a ~14 year old car with 14 year old electronic problems (on a car that's more electronic than many cars of today). You can expect to do as many repairs as upgrades, that's typically the rule for me (every time I upgrade, theres 1 new thing to fix, god help me in a couple weeks when I upgrade just about everything). Anyway, basic mod path is Intake, then Exhaust, then ECU with boost jets (assuming twin turbo here) and a clutch to hold the power (and colder spark plugs too). Many people stop there. At ~400 flywheel horsepower, the car is damn fast, and good enough for many. However, if you venture beyond that... downpipes/testpipes, boost controller, larger injectors, larger intercoolers, larger turbos, nitrous, aquamist (for some) and then upgraded internals (stock can handle around 600 hp, so most people can upgrade turbos without opening the engine up, but beyond 600, upgraded guts are a good idea). For an idea of the potential output, there are a few Z's running in the 700rwhp range (Wagz being the most memorable one, do a search for his car), a lot in the 600 range (hopefully me soon), and 500 is relatively easy. As for what to look for, there's a write up in FAQ about it. Good luck in your search, and enjoy your new obsession (which it will become). If I think of anything else, I'll post more for you

==========Sig Begins Here==========

"Used to date a girl that was missing her right hand......
She drove [a] Civic (5spd with a big circle a-top shifter) and wore a lot clothes that had a lot of buttons. She felt she needed to simplify her life for no one. But the relationship went down hill cause I began to think she was rude. She never clapped at concerts, she never liked working out (and I am a big jump rope freak), when we went swimming ... she would just swim around in circles by herself, I used to whoop her as at Playstation. Like I said... she was just boring" - Posted by Milo (Sport Z Magazine) on October 27, 2003 at 12:27 PM
