Message "beeswax" as you state. That's weird, but maybe it's a good thing, in a way.

I'm a believer in pressure cleaning. I've done it to both my Z's without any problems.

I would try a good soaking on a warm running engine with the engine cleaner of your choice. Keep the engine running and pressure clean at your friendly neighborhood car wash that uses HOT water (many car washes don't have hot water). Do not force the spray near the electrical components or connections. Aim for the broad metal areas, you can do the detail cleaning after this stage.

Carry a can of silicone with you and spray inside ever connection you can see after you pressure clean, to displace water. I went through this cycle about four times in four weeks before I could start seeing the metal everywhere on the engine. Once you are finished pressure cleaning, get out the dielectric grease and take this opportunity to clean and dielectic grease all your connections - CAS, PTU, solenoids, coil packs, etc. That's a good idea regardless. Now you can start with the toothbrush.

I'm sure folks will tell you this is wrong and dangerous. I've been doing it for years to lots of different types of cars and never had a problem. ONE time I was pressure cleaning my old Datsun 210 sedan (I didn't keep the engine running, first mistake) and it wouldn't start afterwards. Took of the distributor cap, one squirt of WD-40, and problem fixed.

Good find on the Z, BTW.
