| point to a bad bearing. That's one reason I'm holding out that my knock is not from the bottom end - my oil pressure has never waivered. Since you have a connection with a shop and a mechanic, that may factor into your decision. You may want to favor labor over parts, which might make my plan not as good of a fit for you. Still, here's the quick and dirty on how I plan on doing my engine: I will buy a new, stock long block. I would be comfortable with a stock bottom end up until around 600 HP, which will greatly exceed my needs or plans. By sticking with a factory built long block, I will have the reliablility, and high quality of new, OEM equipment without having to worry about the fit and tolerances of a rebuild, not to mention the skills of the rebuilder. Too many horror stories about smoking engines and slapping pistons on new rebuilds as they left the shop for my taste. Rebuild the heads with stock cams, nothing too radical, some beefier valve springs, etc. New main engine harness, a must. New turbos, either JWT 530 BB or HKS 2530 BB, and the new GD exhaust manifold. Goal of 500 RWHP realistic. Reinstall engine and enjoy. Just my two cents.
