Message	About friction being independent of surface area. Even in College level intro Physics courses they tell you that surface area changes wont change the amount of friction experienced. The reason they say this is to simplify things as changes in surface area do change friction, but only by a very very small amount, and as genic pointed out, a larger surface area produces less force per unit area. At the graduate level they add those infinitesimalities into the equation. I can provide hardcopy references for everyone after I get home from work if youd like. once again, good writeup. Accurate information, good explanation, and something that I think everyone should read.
