Message I used a solder sucker from Radio Shack and a fine tip on my soldering iron. I cut the old chip off using diag cutters, turned the ECU on it's side and clamped it in a vice (DON'T clamp the PCBoard, just the case of the ECU). I touched each solder point with the iron on the underside and pulled out the rest of the leg of the chip with needle nose pliers. Then, load the solder sucker on the component side and place it over the hole, use the tip of the iron on the other side of the board, same pin number and hit the trigger on the sucker. The key is to only leave the iron on the position for about half a second.

All of this worked for me, I socketed the board and was good to go. I don't recommend doing this for beginners. I have a BS in Computer Engineering ... so ... proceed at your own risk. But, I don't think it's nearly as impossible of a task as most make it out to be.
