You have to ask yourself why the body panel wrinkled near the door when nothing hit it there. The body panel is firmly held against the frame of the car. If the frame shortened, the body panel would have to move with it, and it would wrinkle since the panel can't stretch or compress much, as we see in the pics. It can be fixed, but if the cost of the repairs exceeds a certain percentage of the value of the car, the insurance company will consider it "totalled".
