Message and not sure if you did or not, is to talk to the judges as they judge your car. Fill them in on things they can't see or might not pick up on. Point out the obvious. Just because it's obvious to you, doesn't mean it is to others, let alone the judges. I found that to be very important. I pointed out my custom sill plates, polished speaker rings, and shifter boot/ebrake boot because I designed them myself and had them made for me..at my expense. I also made sure to point out all the work I did on installing the system myself with the help of my friend and that I am virtually sponsor free. This shows the judges dedication to my car and that its my money and time. I also made sure to point out its a daily driver. Big points when it comes to how clean it is. Being friendly if general doesn't hurt either. I was finally judged at 9:30 and the first thing I said was "Hi, how are you?" Small talk goes a long way...if they have the time. I have been to shows where they are just running behind and don't have time to talk, but do try and make sure to point out things where they are looking anyway.

A lot of times the judges are veteran show guys who no longer show. They may or may not know about specifics on the 300ZX but might have owned a Nissan as their show car. They try to pick judges who can relate to a catagory. That is not always the case though. The turbo Impreza that is on our team asked his judge if he knew anything about Imprezas and the judge said no. He asked for a new judge who did.

Of course, there is always the 'polical' crap of some shows where no matter what you do or have, you won't win. I've already experienced it with a show at Infineon. A 240SX with no motor or interior and a poor ass system beat me because the team was friends with the judges. He was at IREV with Team Hokori but this time didn't even place. Your buddy with the 240 even saw it at the Infineon show and commented to me about it at ZBTB. I should have easily won that show, but the judge spent less than 30 seconds looking at my car and refused to talk to me. What pisses me off is not the fact it was a nice looking trophy, but the fact is was also $100.00 for the win. Oh well.

Sometimes after judging is done, if you find your judge, you can ask and might get the scores. There is also a website where they post them if you are registered. I don't remember the name of it though. While talking to the judges, you might ask if there is anything you could improrve on. I always do. With more shows, you'll get some consistant answers and know where your faults are.

I've done 3 shows with that Viper and I am sooooo sick of him reving that damn thing up. As soon as they said we could start our cars, he started his up and revved the shit out of it and then shut if off. The other 2 shows were outside and he would do it every 5 minutes. I heard him say how much HP at the first show, but I can't remember. It was a lot though. Something makes me think it 1000HP, but eh, who knows. If I see him at the next one, I'll be sure to ask.

Anyway, I should stop giving out all my show secrets...lol.

LaterZ...
