Airbag cost from dealer(or used like many insurance co use) 500-3000) new front bumper cover, fender and hood, plus all associated labor and paint costs 2000-3000. 6000 the repair a 30,000 car, no that is not a total.
These are also conservative estimates. Totalling a car is a situation where the insurance Co thinks that it will cost more than 50% of the cars value to repair(actual % varies based on car, year milage, etc) totalled cars can either be issued a regular title(most cases that get this title are owner refused repairs, example, someon t-bones my new vette that has 29 miles on it, repair costs are much less than the value of the car, however I dont want a brand new car that has been wrecked and repaired, it wont ever be quite the same, sure it will still run fine, and prolly wont ever have any major problems relating to the accident, but still, it wont be quite the same, so the smart owner rejects it, and goes out and gets the color he decided he would rather have), salvage title, the car is either wrecked beyond resonable repair, or has been stolen, the owner written off, then recovered, however it still gets issued a salvage title, in cases where this is a higher value car it often retains a clean title. In extreme cases the vehicle gets issued a BOS bill of sale, parts only, no title(unless you get a bonded, thats another story) this happens under unusual circumstances.
