I'm trying to contact some of the enclosed transport shippers about shipping Zs to Cali for next year. DAS said if I booked an entire truck from VA to CA (Ashland, VA to somewhere 7 miles from Nissan HQ in Cali, cool huh?) they could lower the price by $600 round trip. But its still pricey... that's about a 25% discount for booking the whole truck. I mentioned the idea to Yim, and he was curious about doing it from TX. Maybe if you all can get 8 people together, DAS could give you all a similar discount. Now for those doing the math here... DAS wants $1225 to ship enclosed transport from VA to CA, one way. For a round trip of $2450. But they've offered to do it at $925, or $1850 round trip, if I book the truck (8 spots for a Z sized Vehicle, or so they said). By my calculations, if one was DUMB enough to actually drive their Z from VA to CA (5471.11 miles for me without doing anything BUT driving to and from, so lets round to 6000 miles), it would probably cost about $525-$600 in gas alone. Then it would be probably 4 days driving out, 4 days back, so 7 nights in hotels, 8 days of food, $669.95 ($49.95 for hotels, $40 for food per day), and you're already at $1269.95, which doesn't include for other incidents (blown tires, etc) cuz that's 6k miles. You'd have to change your oil before you left, when you got there, and then when you got home... Oh, and don't for get 3 weeks off work... (well maybe two if you planned well). Say you left Wednesday night/Thursday morning early, you might make it by Sunday, then be there all week, and leave on Saturday morning to make it home by Tuesday night, Wednesday. So you've basically taken 9-10 days off work. So you can see where this all adds up... Anyway... I'm saving now to go (hopefully the Z will be running in time). Hopefully I can find enough people to load on (I'm going to be bother Bernie[YugoBernie], Spencer[Spee], Pat[Pats300z], Sean[WagZ], Chris[ChrisNJ], Nick[CarbonTT] and maybe another...) to try and fill the spots... hopefully the guys will go, we'll see. =) We should definitely make it a TT.Net event next year... so whatcha say Damon? Thinking of coming? ^_^
