Message the oil pan volume on the Z motor is relatively small compared to other motors.

Not compared to other V6s, Mike. The amount of oil is mostly dependent on the length of the motor; since the V6 is only 3 cylinders long/deep, it doesn't require as much oil as a longer motor. Your V8 is 4 cylinders long, so it should require more oil.

My two BMW inline-6 motors both take 8 quarts of oil, as they're 6 cylinders long. I would imagine a V12 would require about the same amount of oil. Conversely, I'd imagine a 3 cylinder motor would require about the same amount of oil as the VG30.

Also, I don't see how displacement would effect the amount of oil necessary. My 2.8 liter I6 takes 2 quarts more than your 4.0 V8...

The supra motor takes over 4 quarts.

That doesn't sound right. I'd think it'd be more in 7-8 quart region...
